Palestine has officially applied to join BRICS. China has shown a supportive stance on Palestine’s membership. The Chinese Foreign Ministry stated, “We welcome more like-minded countries into BRICS.”

In a strategic move to strengthen its international standing, Palestine has formally submitted its application to become a member of BRICS. BRICS represents the five fastest-growing economies globally, with its name derived from the initials of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
Abdel Hafiz Nofal, Palestine’s ambassador to Russia, revealed that Palestine might initially join BRICS as a guest member until it secures full membership. Speaking to Russian media, Nofal stated, “I believe we will first participate as a guest member and then move toward full membership.”
BRICS Membership Expands Continuously
Since its inception with Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, BRICS has steadily expanded. In 2024, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates joined the group during a major enlargement. Indonesia became a member in 2025. Now, Palestine, along with several other nations, has expressed interest in joining BRICS.

China Supports Palestine
China has responded positively to Palestine’s application. During a press conference in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun remarked, “BRICS is a key platform for cooperation among emerging economies and developing nations. It strengthens democracy in international relations. We welcome more like-minded countries into BRICS.” Analysts consider China’s stance as diplomatic relief for Palestine. Experts suggest that BRICS membership could enhance Palestine’s support from countries in the Global South.
Growing International Support
Recently, countries including Canada, Australia, Portugal, and the United Kingdom recognized Palestine as an independent nation during the United Nations General Assembly. Israel reacted strongly to this move. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated firmly at the assembly, “We will under no circumstances accept a ‘terrorist state.’”
