Moscow and Beijing have jointly declared their firm conviction that the Ukraine crisis demands a full resolution at its roots. Both sides insist this must happen strictly within the framework of the UN Charter in its entirety, in all its dimensions, and in the interconnection of its principles.

“The parties are convinced of the need to fully eliminate the root causes of the Ukraine crisis based on the principles of the UN Charter in their entirety, totality, and interconnection in order to ensure mutual security and establish the foundations for lasting peace,” the joint statement reads, as published on the Kremlin’s official website.

A Partnership That Goes Far Deeper Than Diplomacy

The statement emerged from a broader agreement on further strengthening comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation along with deepening relations of good-neighbourliness, friendship, and collaboration between the two nations.

This was not a routine diplomatic exchange. It was a carefully worded signal a shared geopolitical stance delivered from one of the world’s most watched bilateral relationships. Russia and China made clear that they see the Ukraine crisis not as an isolated military conflict, but as a situation with deep structural roots that the international community must confront head-on.

What This Means Going Forward

The two sides aligned strongly on the idea that mutual security cannot be achieved without addressing underlying causes. Their shared language drawn directly from the UN Charter signals an effort to frame the conflict within international legal norms, rather than purely through military or political terms.

The meeting in Beijing marks a significant moment in Russia-China ties reaffirming that both nations view their partnership as a cornerstone of a new international order, one where the West no longer sets the rules alone.
