Chinese President Xi Jinping warned that the Middle East and Gulf region must not become a stage for great power rivalry. He made the remarks during a meeting with Oman’s Sultan, who is on a state visit to China.

Xi Warns Against Turning Middle East Into Power Struggle
The Middle East must not turn into a battleground for rivalry among major powers, Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Monday. He made this statement while meeting Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq.
Sultan Haitham is visiting China on a state visit from November 1 to 2. The trip highlights growing ties between Beijing and Muscat.
What Xi Jinping Actually Said
During the meeting, Xi Jinping made his position on regional tensions very clear. Chinese state television quoted his exact words on the matter.
“The Middle East and the Persian Gulf region must not become an arena for rivalry between major powers or for geopolitical conflicts,” stated Xi Jinping.
He stressed that lasting peace and stability in the region require joint efforts from every party involved. No single country can achieve this alone, he suggested.
China’s Role in Regional Peace Efforts
Xi Jinping also spoke about China’s broader approach to conflict resolution. He said China has consistently pushed for an end to wars and supported peace efforts worldwide.
The Chinese leader added that Beijing hopes to help resolve the region’s ongoing security dilemma. His comments come amid wider international talks about Middle East tensions.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that Russia and China want to help settle the conflict in Iran. That remark came on October 21, showing how major powers are increasingly weighing in on the region’s future.
