Bangladesh NSA Visits India Just 48 Hours After Sheikh Hasina’s Death Sentence

Meeting Between Top Security Officials

India’s National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval met his Bangladeshi counterpart Dr. Khalilur Rahman on Wednesday, November 19, 2025. This meeting marks the first interaction since the ICT sentenced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to death. Bangladesh NSA Dr. Rahman arrived in New Delhi a day early on Tuesday, November 19, 2025. He came to attend the Colombo Security Conclave (CSC) scheduled for Wednesday, November 20, 2025. Indian NSA Ajit Doval officially hosted this meeting.

Silence on Bilateral Talks

Both NSAs initially kept quiet regarding any specific bilateral meetings during this pre-planned event. Reports suggested that Dr. Khalilur Rahman would attend a dinner hosted by NSA Ajit Doval on Wednesday. After the event, he plans to attend the CSC meeting on Thursday and then return to Dhaka.

Bangladesh Delegation Meets NSA Ajit Doval

The Bangladesh High Commission in India released an official statement regarding this significant meeting. The High Commission stated, “NSA Dr. Khalilur Rahman… met India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and his team on Wednesday.” The statement confirmed they discussed the work of the CSC and crucial bilateral issues. During the meeting of senior officials on Wednesday, Khaliur Rahman invited NSA Ajit Doval to visit Bangladesh.

Arrival After Hasina’s Sentence

Bangladesh NSA Dr. Khalilur Rahman visited Delhi within 48 hours of a major court verdict in Dhaka. The International Criminal Tribunal-Bangladesh (ICT-B) recently sentenced former PM Sheikh Hasina to death for crimes against humanity. The ICT-B convicted Sheikh Hasina for cases linked to suppressing student protests between June and August 2024. The tribunal also sentenced former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Kamal Khan to death.
