Congress president Kharge demands an urgent relief package for Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Uttarakhand, and Haryana.

The Congress party on Tuesday pressed the Union government to release additional financial assistance for flood-hit states in North India, insisting on a special relief package for Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Uttarakhand, and Haryana.
Party chief Mallikarjun Kharge stressed that natural calamities should not be turned into political battles. Highlighting the crisis in Punjab, where over 2.5 lakh people are struggling due to floods and many have lost their lives, he conveyed condolences to the bereaved families. Kharge said he has spoken to senior Congress leaders in the state and assured that the party will extend every possible form of support.
He further urged both the Centre and state governments to step up relief operations, including rehabilitation and urgent medical aid. Calling for immediate financial help, Kharge demanded that PM CARES funds be allocated to provide fair compensation to victims across all flood-affected areas.
Meanwhile, the devastation continues across the region. Landslides in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand have claimed seven lives. Punjab faced another round of torrential rain on Monday, forcing the closure of schools and colleges. In Jammu and Kashmir, heavy rains in Katra have disrupted the Vaishno Devi pilgrimage for the seventh consecutive day following a deadly landslide that killed 34 people last week.
