The Delhi government has announced a holiday to honor Guru Tegh Bahadur, affecting most schools and government offices citywide.

Government Honors Guru Tegh Bahadur
The Delhi government has officially declared November 25 as a public holiday. This decision marks the 350th Shaheedi Diwas of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta made the announcement recently. She noted that Guru Sahib’s “timeless message of courage, compassion, and freedom of faith continues to guide and inspire people.” The city is preparing for a significant observance of this historic day.
Celebrations at Red Fort
Earlier, the CM invited citizens from across the nation to join the event. A grand three-day commemoration is scheduled at the Red Fort. These events run from November 23 to November 25. The government wants to ensure maximum participation in this tribute.
CM Encourages Family Participation
She stated it was the capital’s “good fortune” to host this event at the Red Fort. She urged families to attend the congregation. Speaking to ANI, she shared her thoughts on the event.
“It is Delhi’s good fortune that we are able to celebrate the 350th martyrdom day of Guru Tegh Bahadur here in Delhi in the form of a congregation… Yesterday and the day before, we organised a grand three-day congregation at the Red Fort for the 350th martyrdom day of Guru Tegh Bahadur. I would like every family to come here… The Delhi government has also declared a public holiday on the 25th so that everyone can celebrate this festival together,” she was quoted as saying.
Closure Updates: What is Open?
Due to the Delhi Public Holiday on November 25, many establishments will close. Most government offices and departments are expected to remain shut. All government-run schools will be closed. Many private schools will also observe the holiday. However, essential services remain active. Emergency services and government hospitals will remain functional. Public transport like the Delhi Metro, buses, and taxis will function normally.
CM Performs Seva
On the first day, CM Rekha Gupta performed ‘Seva’ at the langar. This community kitchen was part of the congregation. Thousands of devotees attended the event. She shared her feelings on X. “Today, my heart is filled with contentment through the service of langar… Today, participating in and serving at the martyrdom congregation of Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib Ji atop the Red Fort is a matter of great pride for me,” she wrote.
