The Delhi government has decided to allow only BS6 compliant commercial vehicles to enter the city borders from November 1, 2025. This move aims to curb severe air pollution. All other commercial vehicles are now strictly prohibited.

The government led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has taken a major decision to control Delhi’s air pollution. Starting in three days, from November 1, 2025, only BS6 commercial vehicles will get entry at Delhi borders. All other commercial vehicles, including BS4 and BS5, face a complete ban.
Sources confirm that the Delhi government has announced this rule will be strictly enforced from November 1st. Action will be taken against anyone who violates this regulation.
The Rekha Gupta administration decided that all goods carrier vehicles registered outside Delhi must meet BS-VI emission standards. Those which do not meet this standard will be denied entry into Delhi from November 1st. This order follows specific directives from the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM).
What is the New Rule?
Following the CAQM order, the Delhi government has issued a new vehicle regulation. Only BS-VI standard commercial vehicles can enter Delhi starting from November 1st.
What is BS-VI Engine Technology?
This step is taken to reduce vehicular emissions when pollution levels peak in Delhi. Studies show that BS-6 technology engines emit less smoke than older engines. This technology is much cleaner than previous versions. It significantly lowers the harmful particulate matter and gases released.
Harmful gases like Particulate Matter (PM) and Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) released from BS-VI vehicles can be greatly reduced. This is a significant step towards slightly improving Delhi’s air quality.
Why is the BS-6 Only Entry Rule Necessary?
Air pollution in Delhi typically starts increasing every year in October. It remains at hazardous levels until January or February. Stubble burning, vehicle exhaust, and still air all contribute to the rising pollution.
Which Vehicles Will Get Entry in Delhi?
The Delhi government’s order provides an exemption for certain vehicle types from the ban. These include:
- BS-IV diesel vehicles (until October 31, 2026)
- BS-VI diesel vehicles
- CNG, LNG, and Electric vehicles
- Commercial goods carrier vehicles registered in Delhi
