  • Himachal Pradesh: Shimla, Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Sirmaur, Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti

Jammu on high alert
Authorities in Jammu have sounded a flood alert after continuous heavy rain caused rivers, including the Chenab, to swell. Officials said water released from the Baglihar Hydroelectric Project (BHEP) reservoir has further raised river levels, urging people to stay away from riverbanks and adjoining areas.

The regional Met office forecast moderate to heavy rainfall across the Jammu division on September 2–3, warning of particularly heavy showers in Kathua, Jammu, Udhampur, and Reasi. As a precaution, all schools in Jammu and Kashmir were closed on Tuesday.

In Samba district, torrential rain has triggered land subsidence, damaging houses and roads near Jamoda village and forcing authorities to evacuate families.

Since August 14, over 130 people have lost their lives and 33 remain missing due to cloudbursts, landslides, and flash floods in Kishtwar, Kathua, Reasi, and Ramban. The toll includes 34 Vaishno Devi pilgrims who died in a landslide on August 26.

Unprecedented rainfall on August 26–27 also flooded low-lying areas of Jammu, causing widespread damage to homes, roads, and infrastructure.
