The Maharashtra government is considering the strict MCOCA law to control illegal Gutkha and tobacco products. This move aims to protect youth health and stop the illicit trade effectively.

Maharashtra FDA Minister Narhari Zirwal stated that the state might apply the MCOCA law soon. This move aims to limit the availability of Gutkha across the region. Gutkha is already banned within the state.
The FDA Minister mentioned on Tuesday that illegal shipments still arrive despite the ban. These tobacco products come from outside the state borders. This illegal supply is causing significant harm to students and the youth.
Thinking About MCOCA Action
A statement from the minister’s office quoted Zirwal regarding the new plan. The government considers using MCOCA for Gutkha ban violators. This includes owners of Gutkha companies and key operators.
The state wants to target the masterminds behind this illegal trade. Incidents involving the transport and sale of Gutkha occur frequently. Pan Masala sales are also being monitored closely.
Sending Proposal to Law Department
According to Tuesday’s statement, a proposal will go to the Law and Judiciary Department. The government seeks guidance on booking offenders under this strict act. They need to know if MCOCA applies to those responsible for illegal Gutkha trade.
Zirwal spoke during a meeting held at the ministry. He confirmed that the state will enforce the MCOCA for Gutkha ban strictly. Officials received instructions to run awareness campaigns at the district level. These drives will educate people against cancer-causing products.
