Suspect identified as a California resident with multiple weapons
Authorities identified the suspect as Cole Tomas Allen, 31, from Torrance, California. No injuries were immediately reported after the incident. However, a shooter did open fire at the scene triggering a swift and large-scale security response. The FBI confirmed that Allen is now in custody. Its Washington field office is leading the ongoing investigation.
US Attorney Jeanine Pirro confirmed that Allen faces preliminary charges on two counts. These include unlawful use of a firearm and assaulting an officer with a dangerous weapon. Pirro noted that more charges are likely as investigators gather further details. She described it as a “very fluid situation” still evolving rapidly. Allen is expected to appear before a federal district court for arraignment on Monday.
Police revealed that the suspect carried multiple weapons at the time of arrest making this a serious breach of security at one of Washington’s most prominent annual events.
