C.P. Radhakrishnan Takes Oath as 15th Vice President
C.P. Radhakrishnan has officially assumed office as India’s 15th Vice President. President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The grand oath-taking ceremony witnessed the presence of several chief ministers and senior leaders. For the first time since resigning, former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar was also seen at a public event. Earlier, Dhankhar had congratulated Radhakrishnan on his election victory.
NDA Candidate Secures Clear Majority
In the recently held Vice Presidential election, NDA nominee C.P. Radhakrishnan won a decisive mandate. He secured 452 votes, while INDIA bloc candidate B. Sudarshan Reddy managed 300 votes, losing by 152 votes. Following this result, Radhakrishnan became the 15th Vice President of the country. His full name is Chandrapuram Ponusami Radhakrishnan, and he chose to take the oath in English.
Political Journey Before Vice Presidency
Before being elected Vice President, Radhakrishnan served as the Governor of Jharkhand and Maharashtra. Just a day before the swearing-in, he submitted his resignation from the post of Maharashtra Governor. At the ceremony, former Vice Presidents Jagdeep Dhankhar, Venkaiah Naidu, and Hamid Ansari were also seen seated together, marking a rare gathering.
Dhankhar’s First Public Appearance After Resignation
Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar attended the event, marking his first appearance after stepping down. He resigned on July 21, citing health reasons, and had remained away from the public eye for about 53 days. Following his resignation, the Vice Presidential election was announced, leading to Radhakrishnan’s victory.
Radhakrishnan Elected on September 9
The election for Vice President took place on September 9. By evening, the results confirmed Radhakrishnan’s win with a total of 452 votes. His opponent, B. Sudarshan Reddy, received 300 votes. Even before the election, political observers expected Radhakrishnan’s victory. After the results, Reddy gracefully accepted his defeat and congratulated the new Vice President.
