Modi praises Trump’s Gaza peace proposal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday praised US President Donald Trump’s proposal aimed at resolving the Gaza conflict. He described it as a “viable pathway” for achieving sustainable peace for both Israelis and Palestinians.

“We welcome President Donald J. Trump’s announcement of a comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict. It provides a viable pathway to long term and sustainable peace, security and development for the Palestinian and Israeli people, as also for the larger West Asian region,” Modi shared on X.

He also expressed hope that “all concerned will come together behind President Trump’s initiative and support this effort to end conflict and secure peace.”

Trump unveils peace plan with Netanyahu

The announcement of the peace plan came during Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to the White House on Monday (local time). The plan, designed to end the war in Gaza, has already received Israel’s approval.

Several nations, including Canada, Qatar, Jordan, the UAE, Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, have also welcomed the initiative, alongside India.

Key points of Trump’s Gaza peace plan

According to the New York Times, Trump’s plan calls for an immediate ceasefire and transforming Gaza into a “de-radicalized, terror-free zone” that does not threaten neighboring countries.

It includes proposals for rebuilding Gaza for the benefit of its residents. The plan also requires Israel to withdraw its forces and Hamas to release all Israeli hostages.

Post-conflict, Gaza will be administered under temporary governance by a technocratic, apolitical Palestinian committee. This body will handle day-to-day public services and municipal operations for Gaza’s residents.

Hamas and all its factions are barred from any form of governance in Gaza, whether direct, indirect, or symbolic, according to the proposal.
