A huge crowd at actor Vijay’s TVK party rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, triggered a deadly stampede. So far, 31 people have died and over 58 have been injured. The chaos broke out during Vijay’s speech when the unbearable heat and suffocation caused people to faint.

Tamil Nadu witnessed a heartbreaking tragedy when a massive crowd gathered at actor-turned-politician Vijay’s rally in Karur. The event, organized by his Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party, turned chaotic as thousands thronged the venue. Several people, including children, lost their lives after a sudden stampede broke out.
When Vijay began addressing the rally, the overcrowded grounds became unbearable. Many in the audience fainted due to suffocation and extreme humidity. Party workers shouted for help, forcing Vijay to pause his speech midway. Within minutes, the situation spiraled out of control as panic spread, and several people collapsed on the spot. Reports confirm at least 36 deaths so far, with the toll expected to rise.
Crowds Flood Karur from Early Morning
The rally was scheduled in Namakkal district of Karur, where thousands of supporters had gathered since early Saturday morning. Previous rallies of Vijay had also drawn massive crowds, and this time was no different. By noon, lakhs of people filled the streets, leaving no space to walk. Supporters included families and children, all eager to see their beloved leader.
When Vijay’s convoy entered the rally ground, the roads were jam-packed with his fans. As he began his address, the crowd’s density caused severe breathing difficulties. Many fainted right in front of the stage, prompting Vijay to throw water bottles into the crowd to help them. Despite his efforts, the panic escalated into a stampede.
Chaos, Deaths, and Injuries Reported
In the deadly rush, 36 people lost their lives while more than 58 sustained injuries. Ambulances were rushed to the site, and the local administration immediately launched a rescue operation. Many unconscious people were taken to hospitals. However, doctors later confirmed that several victims had already died by the time they arrived. Emergency treatment is ongoing for the critically injured.
