Nitish Kumar was elected as the leader of the Janata Dal (United) legislature party unanimously. This decision happened during a meeting held at his residence in Patna on Wednesday. JDU MP Sanjay Jha congratulated Nitish Kumar right after the meeting concluded. Union Minister Rajeev Ranjan Singh also offered his congratulations to the leader.
BJP Announces Their Legislature Party Leaders
The Bharatiya Janata Party also made key leadership decisions for the state. Samrat Choudhary was elected as the leader of the BJP legislature party in Bihar. Additionally, Vijay Sinha was elected as the deputy leader of the party.
Historic Swearing-In Ceremony Set for November 20
Nitish Kumar is now set to be elected as the leader of the National Democratic Alliance. The swearing-in ceremony will follow on November 20. Leaders expressed excitement about it being a “historic oath-taking”. Prime Minister Modi and various Chief Ministers will attend the event. BJP leader Prem Kumar told ANI, “The leader of the BJP legislature party will be selected today. It will be a historic oath-taking ceremony tomorrow as PM Modi and CMs of all states will be attending it.”
NDA Achieves Massive Victory in 2025 Polls
The NDA registered a historic landslide victory in the recent 2025 Bihar elections. They won 202 seats out of the total 243 seats. The Mahagathbandhan could only secure 35 seats in this election. This alliance secured a strong three-fourths majority in the Bihar Assembly. This marks the second time the NDA crossed the 200-seat mark. They previously won 206 seats back in 2010.
Detailed Breakdown of Seats Won by Parties
Within the NDA, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 89 seats. The Janata Dal (United) secured 85 seats. Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) won 19 seats. Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) won five seats, and Rashtriya Lok Morcha won four. For the opposition, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) won 25 seats. The Indian National Congress secured six seats. CPI(ML)(L) won two seats, while IIP and CPI(M) won one each. AIMIM secured five seats, and the BSP won one seat.
Record-Breaking Voter Turnout in Bihar Elections
The Bihar assembly elections were held in two distinct phases on November 6 and 11. Bihar recorded a historic 67.13 per cent voter turnout. This is the highest turnout recorded since 1951. Women voters outpacing men significantly (71.6% vs 62.8%).
