The 2030 Commonwealth Games carry immense historical significance as the centenary celebration of the sporting movement. Hosting this landmark edition in Ahmedabad would be a remarkable achievement. Backed by the Government of India, the Government of Gujarat, and the Indian Olympic Association’s Commonwealth Games Association, the proposal highlights India’s ambition to stage inclusive and globally influential games.

India has officially presented its proposal to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games before the Evaluation Committee in London. The Indian delegation was led by Gujarat’s Sports Minister Harsh Sanghavi and CGA India President Dr. P. T. Usha. The team also included Hari Ranjan Rao, Secretary of Sports, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Ashwini Kumar, Principal Secretary of Sports, Youth and Cultural Activities Department of Gujarat, Banchha Nidhi Pani, Commissioner of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, Raghuram Iyer, CEO of the Commonwealth Games Association, Lt. Gen. Harpal Singh, Executive Board Member of CGA India, and Ajay Narang, EA to the President of CGA.
During the presentation, Gujarat’s Sports Minister said, “Hosting the centenary Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad will not only be a proud milestone for Gujarat but for the entire nation. We see these Games as a catalyst – inspiring our youth, accelerating our journey towards a developed India by 2047, and strengthening the Commonwealth movement for the next 100 years.”
Shaping the Future of the Commonwealth Games
CGA India President Dr. P. T. Usha also underlined India’s vision, stating, “India’s bid is not only about capability but also about values. Ahmedabad is prepared to take over from Glasgow 2026 and act as a foundation for the 2034 Games, ensuring the centenary edition both honors the past and shapes the future of the Commonwealth Games.”
The 2030 Commonwealth Games mark a symbolic moment, celebrating 100 years of the movement. Ahmedabad has been selected as the proposed host city for this centenary edition. The city offers a concentrated sporting hub with world-class venues, strong transport systems, and high-quality accommodation to deliver a global-scale event.

Emphasis on Capability, Inclusion, and Sustainability
Aligned with the Games Reset principles, the proposal focuses on affordability, inclusivity, resilience, and sustainability. It commits to integrating para-sports, protecting human rights, promoting gender equality, and creating a long-term legacy framework. The vision ensures that beyond the competitions, athletes, communities, and the broader Commonwealth benefit from the event.
Ahmedabad’s proven record of hosting major tournaments, such as the ICC Cricket World Cup, the Indian Premier League, and the 2022 National Games, strengthens India’s candidacy. The city is also set to host the Asian Aquatics Championships in 2025, the Asian Weightlifting Championships in 2026, and the World Police and Fire Games in 2029, among others. These events will further enhance operational expertise and readiness by the time the Commonwealth Games arrive in 2030.
