BCCI is preparing to raise a “strong and serious” protest against ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi after his dramatic actions over the Asia Cup trophy.

Trophy Controversy Sparks Major Row
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to file a “strong and serious” protest against Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman Mohsin Naqvi. The protest will be raised at the ICC conference in Dubai later this year, following Naqvi’s controversial conduct during the Asia Cup 2025 final.
The tournament ended in chaos when Indian players refused to receive the trophy from Naqvi, who also serves as Pakistan’s Interior Minister and the chairman of the PCB. The post-match ceremony began after a long 45-minute delay but was cut short when India’s team stood firm, declining any interaction with him on stage.
Naqvi Walks Away With Trophy
Eyewitnesses reported that the Asia Cup trophy was missing from the presentation. Soon after, it emerged that Naqvi ensured the trophy would not be handed to India by anyone else. Despite strong resistance from captain Suryakumar Yadav and his teammates, Naqvi insisted he alone should present the prize.
The PCB and ACC head eventually stepped off the stage and quickly left the stadium. Fans were left stunned as the trophy had disappeared with him, sparking outrage.
Pattern of Controversies Surrounding Naqvi
Naqvi’s role during the tournament has been overshadowed by repeated controversies. He consistently appeared to favor Pakistan while ignoring his duty as the neutral ACC chief. From the no-handshake row to pushing for referee Pycroft’s removal, Naqvi was constantly at the center of disputes. At one point, he even threatened to boycott matches if his conditions were not met.
Adding fuel to the fire, he also shared a mocking video on X (formerly Twitter). The clip referenced Pakistan’s claims of downing Indian fighter jets during Operation Sindoor, using a Cristiano Ronaldo edit completely out of context. Fans immediately linked the post to his ongoing digs at India.

BCCI Loses Patience Over Drama
The BCCI has now reached a breaking point with Naqvi’s actions. Officials described the post-match fiasco as the last straw.
“We have decided not to accept the Asia Cup 2025 trophy from the ACC chairman, who is also a senior political leader in Pakistan. That was a deliberate decision. This does not give him the right to take the trophy and medals away. It is unsportsmanlike and very unfortunate. We expect the trophy and medals to be returned to India immediately,” said BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia.
He further confirmed: “There is an ICC conference in Dubai this November. At that event, we will launch a very serious and strong protest against the actions of the ACC chairman.”

No BCCI Officials Present at the Final
Interestingly, no BCCI representative was present at the Asia Cup final in Dubai. On the same day, the board was busy holding its Annual General Meeting (AGM), where Mithun Manhas was named the 37th BCCI President. Saikia retained his secretary post, while Rajeev Shukla continued as vice-president.
India Seal Victory Despite Chaos
On the field, India secured a thrilling win. Tilak Varma’s stylish 69 helped the Men in Blue chase 147 with five wickets to spare and only two balls left. Earlier, Kuldeep Yadav starred with the ball, picking up four wickets to bowl Pakistan out for 146 in 20 overs.
