Massive Withdrawal Wave Hits Binance After Hack

Customers of Binance, the world’s biggest cryptocurrency exchange, pulled out roughly $3.64 billion in only nine and a half hours. This happened right after the platform partially restored its withdrawal function following a cyberattack, according to a statement from the exchange.

On Sunday, Binance announced that it had partially resumed withdrawals for users after the hack disrupted normal operations.

Exchange Shares Exact Withdrawal Timeline

The company explained the rollout in detail on social media platform X. It stated:

“Binance began a phased resumption of withdrawals at 06:00 UTC… Between 06:00 and 15:30 UTC… the net outflow of funds totaled approximately $3.64 billion.”

Withdrawal Sum Represents Small Share Of Total Assets

Binance clarified that this amount equals just 2.1% of all assets under its management. As of October 28, those total assets stood at $171 billion.

Founder Confirms Hack, Says User Funds Remain Safe

Earlier, Binance founder Changpeng Zhao confirmed that the platform appeared to have suffered a hacking attack. He assured users that their funds remained secure throughout the incident.

According to the company’s preliminary estimate, the breach affected assets worth approximately $6.3 billion.

Binance Pledges To Cover All Losses

A Binance representative confirmed that the exchange would cover all losses from the hack. The funds will come from the company’s own resources and its SAFU user protection reserve.

The SAFU fund was built specifically to shield customers from events like this security breach.

Background: North Korea Link And Trump’s Remarks

Separately, the FBI has claimed the hackers behind the Binance breach have ties to North Korea. US President Donald Trump also said Washington might raise the Binance hack during discussions with North Korea.

These developments add a geopolitical dimension to what is already one of the largest crypto security incidents this year.
