Israel Seeks Washington’s Green Light to Escalate Strikes on Beirut

Senior Israeli officials have quietly reached out to their American counterparts asking Washington to approve a significant expansion of Israeli military strikes targeting Beirut, as the conflict with Hezbollah shows no signs of cooling down.

Israel Presses Washington for Approval to Widen Beirut Offensive

Senior Israeli officials have reached out directly to top American officials. They are asking Washington to greenlight a broader campaign of Israeli military strikes on Beirut. The outreach confirmed by senior Israeli government sources signals a sharp escalation in Israel’s intentions in Lebanon.

Israeli Military Captures Historic Beaufort Fortress in Southern Lebanon

Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz announced a significant battlefield development on Sunday. He confirmed that the Israel Defense Forces the IDF had seized control of the medieval Beaufort fortress in southern Lebanon. The ancient stronghold holds major strategic value in the region. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu followed up with a pointed directive. He ordered the Israeli military to expand its ongoing operation against the Hezbollah movement. Netanyahu also ordered forces to tighten their grip on additional territories across southern Lebanon.

Ceasefire Agreement Remains Fragile as Fighting Continues Daily

“Senior Israeli officials approached senior US officials to permit the Israel Defense Forces to expand strikes on Beirut,” this is how the situation was described by insiders familiar with the communications.

The first direct ambassador-level talks between Lebanon and Israel took place in Washington on April 16. Those discussions ended with US President Donald Trump declaring a ceasefire agreement between both sides. However despite that formal agreement Israel has continued striking dozens of villages across southern Lebanon every single day. Israeli forces also maintain fire control over several border settlements along the frontier. Hezbollah, for its part, has been actively conducting combat operations against Israeli forces in response to the ongoing strikes.
