Addressing Donald Trump, Shehbaz stated that without “this gentleman’s” intervention, who knows “who would have survived” to recount the events of the India-Pakistan conflict.
Global Leaders Gather in Sharm el-Sheikh
The setting was the beautiful Egyptian city of Sharm el-Sheikh. The event aimed to restore calm in Gaza. Global heavyweights convened there. Besides the main agenda, much diplomacy and flattery were seen. Leaders from over 20 countries attended this Red Sea luxury resort conference.
Shehbaz Nominates Trump for Peace Prize
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised President Trump. He again nominated the US President for the Nobel Peace Prize. Shehbaz’s speech mentioned the events of May 7. This was when India launched Operation Sindoor against Pakistan after the Pahalgam attack.
Recalling Operation Sindoor’s Fear
Shehbaz Sharif’s statement showed the sheer terror of Operation Sindoor. He suggested that if Trump hadn’t intervened in that conflict, who would be alive to tell the tale. Both India and Pakistan are nuclear powers, he emphasized.
Praising Trump’s Peacemaking Efforts
Following 67,000 deaths in Gaza, Shehbaz congratulated Trump on the peace accord. He stated, “I will say that Pakistan had nominated President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, because he made an excellent and extraordinary contribution in first stopping the war between India and Pakistan and then achieving a ceasefire with his amazing team.”
“Today again, I would like to nominate this great President for the Nobel Peace Prize because I truly feel that he is the most genuine and most amazing candidate for the peace prize because he not only established peace in South Asia, but saved millions of lives, and today here in Sharm el-Sheikh, established peace in Gaza and saved millions of lives in the Middle East.”
‘Man of Peace’ Intervention
Calling Trump the ‘Man of Peace,’ Shehbaz remembered Operation Sindoor. He felt that without Trump’s intervention that day, there’d be no one left to describe the incident.
He asserted, “Suffice it to say that if it were not for this gentleman, not only… who knows… India and Pakistan are both nuclear powers, if he had not intervened with his wonderful team during those four days, the war could have escalated to the extent that… who would have lived to tell what happened. Mr. President, your and President Sisi’s contribution is similarly vital in bringing peace here to Gaza. History will remember this in golden words.”
Trump Praises Pakistan and Army Chief
US President Trump also lauded Pakistan in his address. He called Pakistan’s Army Chief, Asim Munir, his ‘Favorite General.’ Trump handed the stage to Shehbaz Sharif. He said, “Pakistan’s Prime Minister Sharif and I also have to say that my favorite Field Marshal of Pakistan who is not here but the Prime Minister is here, he should give you his thanks…”
Hope for India-Pakistan Relations
During the event, Trump also said he believes “India and Pakistan will get along very well.” He recalled PM Narendra Modi, saying, “India is a great country with a very good friend of mine at the top and he has done a great job. I think Pakistan and India will get along very well.”
Pakistan Initiated Ceasefire
India’s stance on Operation Sindoor is very clear. India has consistently maintained that the agreement to end hostilities with Pakistan came after direct talks. This was between the DGMOs of both armies on May 10. Pakistan had appealed for this resolution. India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7. It targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.
