The capital of Venezuela, Caracas, was rocked by several massive explosions on Saturday morning (January 3, 2026). This happens amid ongoing tensions with the United States. The Venezuelan government condemned the act. They accused the US of hitting civilian and military sites. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump made a bold claim. He stated that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife are now in US custody.

Major US operation in Venezuela

Donald Trump claimed, “The United States of America has successfully carried out a large scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro. Nicolas Maduro and his wife have been captured and flown out of the Country. This operation was conducted in conjunction with U.S. law enforcement. A press conference will be held soon to provide full details.”

Escalating tensions and military action

President Trump had previously warned about a potential ground operation in Venezuela. These warnings were part of his strategy to remove Maduro from power. Following these threats, residents heard multiple blasts across Venezuela. To increase pressure, the US President has tightened sanctions. He also increased the US military presence in the region. Furthermore, he accused vessels in the Caribbean and Pacific of drug trafficking.
