Romania’s top public health body has confirmed a fresh hantavirus infection stressing it involves a strain native to Europe and bears no connection to the deadly Andes virus that struck passengers aboard the cruise ship MV Hondius.

Romania’s Health Authority Steps In With Clarity
Romania’s National Institute of Public Health made an important announcement on Monday. It confirmed a new hantavirus infection in the country but was quick to draw a clear line. The strain involved is native to Romania and Europe. It has nothing to do with the Andes virus strain the one tied to the deadly MV Hondius cruise ship outbreak that recently alarmed the world.
What Tests Revealed About the Patient
The Arad County Public Health Directorate took a closer look at this case. Serological tests pointed to a chronic infection not a fresh one. Authorities believe the patient most likely contracted the virus during an earlier stay at a psychiatric facility. The patient remains in stable condition right now. Medical teams continue to monitor the individual closely under hospital care.

Health authorities did not stop at just announcing the case. They shared straightforward safety guidance for ordinary people. The Cruise Ship Outbreak : A Separate Scare Altogether
Earlier, a hantavirus outbreak on the Dutch-flagged cruise ship MV Hondius claimed three lives. That news triggered widespread panic and stirred fears of a new pandemic.
