Trump Would Only Walk Away From Iran Ceasefire If American Soldiers Are Killed- Report

A major US newspaper, citing White House insiders, reports that Donald Trump is willing to maintain the current ceasefire with Iran unless American military personnel lose their lives. Meanwhile, diplomatic talks continue, even as both sides exchange occasional strikes.

Donald Trump has quietly drawn a firm line. According to insiders familiar with his private conversations, the US President will consider abandoning the ceasefire with Iran only if American soldiers are killed. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal, which cited multiple officials close to the administration.

Trump himself addressed the situation in an interview with the Pod Force One podcast on Wednesday. He said he personally favors a diplomatic path forward with Iran driven by humanitarian concern. However, he also acknowledged that resuming US strikes could provide certainty that the conflict would not restart.

What Trump Said Behind Closed Doors

“President Trump in private conversations with aides has indicated he is open to reconsidering the ceasefire with Iran if Tehran kills American service members,” the outlet reported.

Sources speaking to the Journal further noted that Trump is willing to tolerate smaller flare-ups for weeks, or even months, if necessary. Despite that flexibility, the broader US administration continues to work toward avoiding a full-scale war in the Middle East.

Background : How the Conflict Unfolded

The US and Israel launched coordinated strikes against Iranian territory on February 28. Those strikes targeting several key facilities killed more than 3,000 people. On April 8, Washington and Tehran jointly announced a two-week ceasefire. After those two weeks passed, no resumption of large-scale hostilities was reported but the US moved forward with a naval blockade of Iranian ports.

Diplomatic negotiations between the two countries have been ongoing in parallel. Recent discussions centered around hammering out a framework memorandum of understanding. Even so, both sides have continued trading individual strikes. US military officials describe their actions as necessary for enforcing the maritime blockade and “self-defense purposes.” Tehran, for its part, characterizes its strikes as retaliatory responses.
