US President Donald Trump brushed off the $30 billion spent on military action against Iran, calling it pocket change compared to what Washington earned from Venezuela.

Trump Dismisses $30 Billion Iran Operation Cost
US President Donald Trump has downplayed the $30 billion the United States spent on its military operation against Iran. He called the sum insignificant.
Trump made the remarks during an interview with Fox News. He pushed back against criticism aired earlier on the network.
“I heard a very stupid congressman on Fox, I think it was on Fox and Friends, say that “he spent 30 billion dollars on this war with Iran.” Well, that is small change, because we made many times more than that just on Venezuela alone,” Trump told Fox News.
He suggested the Iran spending looked minor next to US gains linked to Venezuela. Trump did not go into further detail on those figures during the interview.
Where the $30 Billion Figure Came From
The cost estimate did not come from Trump himself. It was first mentioned by a top White House official months earlier.
Russell Vought, director of the White House Office of Management and Budget, raised the figure during congressional hearings in late June. He told lawmakers the US had spent roughly $30 billion on the Iran military operation.
That testimony appears to be what sparked the Fox News commentary Trump later criticized. The president’s comments effectively confirmed the scale of spending while rejecting its significance.
Background on the US-Iran Conflict
The tension between Washington and Tehran traces back to military strikes earlier this year. The United States and Israel began striking targets inside Iran on February 28.
Iran responded with its own strikes against US and allied positions. The exchange marked a serious escalation between the two sides.
In mid-June, Tehran and Washington signed a memorandum to halt hostilities. The ceasefire did not hold for long.
Both sides later exchanged strikes again, reigniting the conflict. As of now, the situation between Iran and the United States remains unresolved.
