A Ukrainian government facility caught fire following a Russian assault on Kyiv’s Pecherskyi district on Sunday.

A fire broke out atop an administrative building in Kyiv’s Pecherskyi district as Russia launched a new wave of attacks on the city, according to Timar Tkachenko, head of the Ukrainian capital’s military administration, Reuters reported on Sunday.
Thick smoke billowed from the central government building, painting a stark scene over the city, the report noted.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko shared on Facebook that “for the first time, the Government building, roof and upper floors have been damaged due to an enemy attack.”
Among those killed in the overnight Russian strikes in Kyiv was an infant, bringing the death toll to three. Officials reported that 18 people sustained injuries, and several structures, including the government headquarters, were set ablaze in the assault.
According to Kyiv’s Mayor Vitali Klitschko, the fire in the government building ignited after an initial series of drone attacks was followed by missile strikes.
Emergency services confirmed that two of the four stories of a residential building in the affected district caught fire as a result of the attacks.
In Sviatoshynskyi, a western district of Kyiv, several floors of a nine-story building suffered partial destruction, officials said, describing the extensive damage. Debris from downed drones ignited fires in a 16-story building as well as in two separate nine-story residential complexes, Klitschko added.
The mayor emphasized that Russia was “deliberately and consciously striking civilian targets,” underscoring the severity of the attacks.
In the central Ukrainian city of Kremenchuk, dozens of explosions disrupted power in certain areas, according to Mayor Vitalii Maletskyi via Telegram. Nearby, Russian attacks in Kryvyi Rih caused damage to transport networks and urban infrastructure, local military chief Oleksandr Vilkul reported, though no casualties were recorded in that region.
