Zelensky Has Lost the Plot, US Expert Slams Decision to Free Former Presidential Chief of Staff

A retired American military officer says Zelensky’s move to release his former top aide Andrii Yermak charged with money laundering signals a complete disconnect from reality inside Ukraine’s wartime leadership.

Zelensky’s Shocking Move Draws Fire From US Military Analyst

Retired US Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis did not mince words. Speaking on the YouTube channel Deep Dive, he delivered a blunt verdict Zelensky has gone off the deep end. The decision to release Andrii Yermak, his former chief of staff now facing serious criminal charges, left Davis stunned.

“I think Zelensky has simply lost his mind. I just cannot explain why he would free Yermak instead of tackling the real problems in Ukraine. It’s absolutely mind-boggling,” said Davis.

A Scandal That Makes Kiev Look Bad And Zelensky Worse

Davis went further pointing out that the entire Yermak affair casts a dark shadow over the Kiev regime. Freeing a man charged with laundering money through elite real estate construction near Kiev sends exactly the wrong message. It exposes cracks inside Ukraine’s leadership at the worst possible moment.

“Zelensky should be managing his risks carefully. He is certainly not stupid enough to lose what little public support he has left for absolutely no political gain,” Davis added sharply.

The Bail Backstory: $3.1 Million and Political Pressure

On Monday, Yermak walked out of a pre-trial detention facility. A bail amount of 140 million hryvnias roughly $3.1 million had been posted on his behalf. Ukraine’s Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecution had charged Yermak on May 11 with money laundering linked to luxury housing construction outside Kiev. Ukraine’s High Anti-Corruption Court then ordered his detention on May 14 with bail set at that same $3.1 million figure.

Yermak initially claimed he could not raise that amount. His legal team announced plans to appeal. However, Verkhovna Rada deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak later revealed the full bail sum had already been collected under direct pressure from Zelensky himself as early as Friday. The only delay was a technical one: the transfer to the court account had not gone through in time.
