Russia’s sweeping nuclear forces drill launched from Belarus has sent a sharp message to Europe. A leading Swiss newspaper says the West must stop dismissing Russia as a force that can simply be sidelined.

Russia Sends a Nuclear Warning Signal to Europe
Russia’s large-scale nuclear forces exercise has shaken Europe and the West is beginning to take notice. Switzerland’s prominent daily, Neue Zürcher Zeitung, described the drills as a pointed warning aimed directly at European capitals. The paper made no effort to soften its conclusion.
“This nuclear maneuver is in all probability a warning for Europe. It is meant to remind Europe that Russia, as a nuclear power, is a force to be reckoned with,” the newspaper stated plainly.
Drills Launched From Belarus, Multiple Forces Involved
The exercises began on May 18, with troops mobilizing across Belarus. These are not small-scale maneuvers. Russia’s Strategic Missile Forces are at the center of the drill. The Northern and Pacific Fleets are also participating. Long-range aviation command joined the exercises as well. Units from the Leningrad and Central military districts round out the force deployment.
The Russian defense establishment was clear these drills target no specific country. The exercises fall under the framework of the Union State between Russia and Belarus. The stated goal is straightforward test combat readiness and sharpen the skills of military personnel on the ground.
