Grand Ceremony at Gandhi Maidan
Janata Dal (United) chief Nitish Kumar took the oath as Bihar Chief Minister on Thursday. This marks his record 10th term in the top office. Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the event along with key NDA leaders. The PM had previously missed the ceremony in 2020. The event happened at Patna’s historic Gandhi Maidan. This venue also hosted his ceremonies in 2005, 2010, and 2015. It is where Jayaprakash Narayan called for “total revolution” in 1974.
Top Leaders in Attendance
Many Chief Ministers from NDA-ruled states joined the celebrations. Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini and Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma were present. Leaders like Yogi Adityanath and N Chandrababu Naidu also attended. Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan participated in the ceremony at Gandhi Maidan. LJP (RV) Chief Chirag Paswan was also among the attendees.

Party Leadership and Support
Nitish Kumar was elected leader of the JD(U) Legislature Party on Wednesday. This happened during a meeting with new MLAs at his Patna residence. He was also unanimously chosen as the leader of the NDA Legislature Party. This paved the way for the new government formation today. Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha were elected as BJP leaders too. Keshav Prasad Maurya proposed their names, and other MLAs supported it.
A Historic Victory for NDA
The 2025 polls were seen as a major test for the veteran leader. Nitish Kumar has guided Bihar politics for nearly 20 years. He has served as CM since November 2005 with only a short break. The NDA won 202 seats out of 243 constituencies. Nitish Kumar met the Governor yesterday to stake his claim.
