The India Meteorological Department predicts heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and rough sea conditions near the South Andaman Sea.

Storm Developing in the Andaman Sea
A low-pressure system near Malaysia is changing rapidly. It will likely become a depression in the South Andaman Sea soon. This shift is expected within the next 24 hours.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) warns of bad weather in the region. They predict heavy rains and strong winds. “Avoid sea travel, secure essentials, follow official updates & move to safe shelters if required,” the IMD said in a weather warning on Monday.
The weather agency explained the situation clearly. “On November 24, there was a well-marked low-pressure area over Malaysia and the Strait of Malacca. Over the following 24 hours, it is most expected to deepen into a depression over the South Andaman Sea. Thus, the South Andaman Sea, the Strait of Malacca and coastal Malaysia are likely to see heavy rains, strong gusts, and choppy seas,” the IMD said in a statement.
Additionally, another system might form near Sri Lanka. This low-pressure area could impact the southwest Bay of Bengal on Tuesday.
Heavy Rain Alert for Coastal Areas
The IMD has issued alerts for several regions. Heavy rainfall is expected over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. This weather will last from November 25 to November 29. Rainfall is also likely in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Lakshadweep may also face heavy showers.
The system might impact the east coast as well. If the low-pressure system strengthens, it could bring rain to Odisha. Some coastal districts might see rain between November 25 and 27.
Experts are tracking the path closely. IMD scientist Sanjeev Dwivedi noted earlier that the system would move “in a west-northwest direction.”
The system is expected to get stronger. It may develop into Cyclone Senyar by November 26. The name comes from the United Arab Emirates. ‘Senyar’ typically means a ‘lion’ and is next on the list.
