CP Radhakrishnan secured the Vice President’s post on September 9 with a 452-300 win in the polls.

Acharya Devvrat, who is currently serving as the governor of Gujarat, has been given the additional charge of Maharashtra following the election of CP Radhakrishnan as the new vice president of India. The move came after Radhakrishnan officially vacated the position of Maharashtra governor to assume his new constitutional role.
Radhakrishnan, who was the BJP-led NDA nominee for the second-highest parliamentary office, defeated opposition-backed candidate B Sudershan Reddy, a retired Supreme Court judge, in the September 9 elections. He won with a vote margin of 452-300, cementing his victory against the INDIA bloc’s choice. With this win, Radhakrishnan has taken over as vice president and left the Maharashtra governor’s office vacant.
In light of this development, Acharya Devvrat has been handed additional responsibilities while continuing as Gujarat governor. He will now oversee Maharashtra until a permanent appointment is made.
