During his UN address, Jaishankar said India has faced this challenge since independence. He pointed out that a neighboring country has been the hub of global terrorism, with several of its citizens listed by the United Nations as terrorists. The most recent example is the brutal killing of innocent tourists in Pahalgam this April.

Jaishankar’s Strong Words at UNGA
At the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar represented India and fiercely criticized Pakistan. He presented India’s position on regional and global concerns and strongly highlighted Pakistan’s involvement in nurturing terrorism, terror financing, and the Pahalgam attack. Without directly naming the country, he said, “For some nations, terrorism has become a matter of state policy.”
Pakistan Reacts with Denial
Jaishankar’s sharp statements rattled Pakistan. Using its right to reply, the Pakistani representative accused India of attempting to malign Pakistan with what it called “malicious allegations” on terrorism. The representative alleged that India was repeating lies to deliberately discredit Pakistan, even though Jaishankar never directly mentioned the country in his speech.
India responded that Pakistan’s reaction exposed its guilt, noting that “a neighbor, whose name wasn’t even mentioned, still chose to respond and in doing so admitted its long-standing involvement in cross-border terrorism.”

“Pakistan Is a Threat to the Entire World”
Rentala Srinivas, Second Secretary at India’s Permanent Mission to the UN, stated, “Pakistan’s reputation speaks for itself. Its footprint in terrorism is visible across many regions. It poses a danger not just to its neighbors but to the entire world.”
Exercising India’s right to reply, Srinivas further said, “No argument or falsehood can ever hide the crimes of terrorists.” When the Pakistani delegate took the stage again, Srinivas walked out of the hall in protest.
Jaishankar Calls for Global Action Against Terrorism
In his address, Jaishankar urged the global community to condemn nations that openly adopt terrorism as a state policy, operate large-scale terror centers, and glorify terrorists in public. He stressed the urgent need to curb terror financing and impose strict restrictions on key terrorists, adding that the entire terror ecosystem must face sustained pressure.
“Terror List Filled with Pakistani Citizens”
Without naming Pakistan directly, Jaishankar remarked that several of its citizens are listed in the UN’s database of global terrorists. Referring to the April incident in Pahalgam, he said, “India exercised its right to defend its people against terrorism and brought the organizers and perpetrators of the attack to justice.”
He emphasized that those who support sponsors of terrorism must be held accountable and warned that the world cannot afford to allow impunity for such acts.
