Deep concern expressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi over reports of targeting Vladimir Putin’s home, stressing that dialogue is the sole route to lasting peace.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi voiced his worry on Tuesday. This followed reports of alleged Ukraine-led attacks on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s residence. He emphasized that diplomacy remains the only credible way for peace. Modi stated he was deeply concerned about developments. Such actions could further escalate ongoing hostilities.
Focus on Diplomacy is Crucial
The Prime Minister shared his thoughts on X. He said, “Deeply concerned by reports of the targeting of the residence of the President of the Russian Federation. Ongoing diplomatic efforts offer the most viable path toward ending hostilities and achieving peace. We urge all concerned to remain focused on these efforts and to avoid any actions that could undermine them.” His comments came a day after a claim from Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. Lavrov reportedly claimed Kyiv tried to strike Vladimir Putin’s state residence. This alleged incident took place in Russia’s Novgorod region. Lavrov warned this would impact Moscow’s negotiation approach.
International Reaction to the Allegations
US President Donald Trump is working to broker a peace deal. He reacted to the news, stating he was “very angry.” The Republican President said Putin informed him about the alleged attack. This happened during a phone call between the two leaders. Speaking to reporters in Florida, Trump remarked: “It’s one thing to be offensive, because they’re offensive. It’s another thing to attack his house. It’s not the right time to do any of that.” He added: “I learned about it from President Putin, and I was very angry about it.” China also responded to the development. Its foreign ministry stated, “We urge parties to abide by the principle of no spillover of the battlefield, no escalation,” as reported by Reuters.
‘Russia Claims 91 Long-Range Drones Launched’
Lavrov stated Ukraine launched 91 long-range drones at the residence. This happened over December 28–29. He called the action “reckless.” Lavrov also stated that it would not go unanswered. News agency Reuters reported this. He confirmed all the drones were intercepted and destroyed. This was done by Russian air defences. Lavrov further described the alleged attack as “state terrorism.” It was not immediately clear if President Putin was present. This is concerning at the time of the alleged incident. Meanwhile, Zelensky rejected Moscow’s allegation. He called it “a complete fabrication.” He also said Russia itself was unwilling. They were not taking necessary steps to end the war.
