Sadhguru, the founder of Isha Foundation, shares his perspective on the critical Siliguri Corridor, highlighting a historical misstep and the urgent need for strategic action.

Sadhguru on India’s Strategic Security
Isha Foundation founder, Sadhguru, spoke on a very sensitive topic. It concerns India’s strategic security and sovereignty. He was speaking during a Satsang at Sadhguru Sannidhi in Bengaluru. A question came up about remarks made by Bangladesh’s interim government. These remarks concerned the Siliguri Corridor. He called the situation a ’78-year-old anomaly’. He attributed this to the partition of India.
India Lost the 1971 Opportunity
Sadhguru stated the Siliguri Corridor is often called the ‘Chicken Neck’. It is a very narrow strip of land. This strip connects India’s northeastern states to the rest of the country. This difficult situation arose during the 1947 partition. He admitted that in 1946–47, India might have lacked the power or situation to fix it. However, India had a complete opportunity and the right in 1971. This was after the Bangladesh Liberation War. Sadly, this opportunity was lost by India.
The ‘Chicken Neck’ Must Become an ‘Elephant’
Sadhguru also shared his views on the social media platform ‘X’. He wrote that the Siliguri Corridor is a 78-year-old anomaly. It was created by the partition of India. He stressed it should have been corrected back in 1971. He stated that the nation’s sovereignty now faces an open challenge. It is time to nurture this ‘Chicken’ to make it an ‘Elephant’.
Sadhguru used symbolic language to make his point clear. He said a nation’s foundation cannot rest on weakness. He stated a nation cannot continue just as a ‘Chicken’. It must become an ‘Elephant’. This will require nourishment, strength, or other concrete steps. These steps must be taken. Every action has a cost, but national security is far greater.
Idealism is Not Practical in Current Global Scenario
He added that the ideal situation would be a world without borders and countries. However, he believes this thinking is not practical in the current global conditions. It would be great if the world had no borders. Yet, we are not at that stage yet. Assuming everything will suddenly be fine is unrealistic thinking.
An ‘Elephant’s Neck’ is Easier to Manage
Sadhguru reiterated that this is only a 78-year-old anomaly. He stressed that improvement is still possible now. He said, “An ‘Elephant’s Neck’ is easier to manage.” He made it clear that strengthening the Siliguri Corridor is an urgent necessity. Sadhguru has previously expressed concerns about other issues. These include violence against Hindu minorities in Bangladesh. They also include the destruction of temples and demographic pressure.
