‘Deepu Chandra Das’s Murder Goes Against Constitutional Mandate’
Owaisi stated that the lynching of Deepu Chandra Das contradicts Bangladesh’s constitutional mandate. The constitution guarantees freedom of religion under Article 41. He unequivocally denounced this tragic incident. Speaking to the news agency ANI, Owaisi mentioned, “What happened to Deepu Chandra Das is completely against the constitutional mandate. It is extremely unfortunate. This is a sad event. Our party condemns any form of lynching.”
‘Bangladesh Was Built on a Secular Foundation’
Owaisi explained that Bangladesh’s foundation lies in secular Bengali nationalism. A large non-Muslim population resides there. They speak the Bangla language. “If you look at the Constitution, Article 41 guarantees freedom of religion. Articles 27 and 28 ensure equality before the law. Article 12 upholds secularism,” he added.
Earlier, he supported the Indian government’s steps to strengthen ties with Bangladesh. He stressed that stability in Bangladesh is crucial for India’s security, especially in the Northeast. He had stated, “A popular revolution has taken place in Bangladesh. We hope relations between India and Bangladesh will remain better when elections take place in February.”
