A Tripura student’s murder in Dehradun has shocked the nation. The young man, brutally attacked in a suspected racial assault, succumbed to his severe injuries after many days in the hospital.

Medical Report Highlights Cruelty
Twenty-four-year-old Angel Chakma, a student from Tripura, died following an attack in Dehradun. A medical report from Graphic Era Hospital revealed the student sustained critical injuries. The Uttarakhand government expressed deep concern over this tragic incident. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami labeled the attack entirely unacceptable. He also promised strict action against all the culprits.
The hospital’s investigation report detailed deep wounds on the deceased student’s back and head. He also had multiple scratches on his leg. His body’s right side (both upper and lower limbs) showed signs of serious trauma. The right side of his body was also paralyzed. Furthermore, the report indicated a spinal cord injury and fractures in the skull.
What the Case is All About
The incident began on December 9 at a roadside eatery. It falls under the Selaqui police station area in Dehradun. The event quickly escalated into violence after a protest against alleged racial abuse. Reportedly, Angel Chakma and his brother, Michael Chakma, faced racist remarks from some intoxicated individuals. A scuffle ensued when the two brothers objected to the comments. During the confrontation, Angel was attacked with a sharp weapon. This left him severely injured.
Dehradun SSP’s Statement
Dehradun SSP Ajay Singh stated that the accused appeared to be drunk. The situation quickly became uncontrollable within minutes. Angel collapsed immediately at the scene due to injuries to his head and back. He was rushed to Graphic Era Hospital. He received treatment there for over 17 days. Sadly, he died on December 26 due to the severity of his injuries.
Number of Arrests Made
Police registered an FIR based on a complaint from Angel’s family. They formed a special team to investigate the case. The police have arrested five individuals so far. This includes two minors who were sent to a juvenile correction facility. The arrested individuals are Avnish Negi, Shaurya Rajput, Suraj Khwas, Sumit, and Ayush Baroni. One suspect is currently absconding. He is suspected to have fled to Nepal. Police announced a ₹25,000 reward for information leading to his arrest. A dedicated team has been dispatched to aid in finding him.
