Rumors of Leadership Change

Speculation about a leadership change in Karnataka has grown recently. Some MLAs loyal to Deputy CM DK Shivakumar went to New Delhi recently. They planned to meet the Congress party leadership. However, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has dismissed these rumors. He called the entire discussion an “unnecessary debate”.

The Rotational Power Theory

The Siddaramaiah-led government has now completed two and a half years. Rumors suggest a “rotational chief minister formula” exists. This alleged deal involves Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar holding the top post for equal terms. Reports cite this agreement often. However, the party has not officially confirmed this deal yet.

Siddaramaiah Claims Stability

Siddaramaiah spoke to reporters on Thursday about the issue. He insisted that his position is safe. He stated, “Only after it was said that the cabinet can be reshuffled after two and a half years did the issue of changing the chief minister come to the fore.” He noted that party leaders decide on reshuffles.

Focus on Promises

The CM visited Chamarajanagar recently. He assured everyone that his government is stable. He said, “My power is secure now and in the future. Sincere efforts are being made to fulfil the promises made to the people…” He wants to focus on development work.

Dismissing the ‘November Revolution’

The CM also laughed off talk of a “November revolution”. Some people used this term for a possible leadership change. Siddaramaiah blamed the media for this. He said, “It is you (media) who coined the term. You cooked up this ‘revolution’. Hence, there is no ‘kranti’ (revolution) or ‘bhranti’ (confusion).”

A Full Five-Year Term

He expressed confidence in finishing his full term. He added, “We have been given a five-year tenure to rule. After five years, elections will take place and we will win once again.” He believes the party will succeed again.

Confirmation from Party Leaders

Congress MLA KN Rajanna also spoke to the press. He attended a meeting with senior leaders. He referred to an official letter. He said, “We discussed strategies to bring Congress back to power in 2028… AICC letter clearly mentions Siddaramaiah as the CM and DK Shivakumar as DyCM.”
