Congress appears increasingly isolated in Maharashtra politics regarding the upcoming polls. Sharad Pawar has now openly supported Uddhav Thackeray’s call for unity.

The Battle for Mumbai’s Civic Body
The Indian National Congress seems to be standing alone before the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections in Mumbai. Sharad Pawar, a senior leader of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), believes the alliance should fight the BMC polls together. Pawar asks a vital question about their strategy. He wonders why they protest ‘vote theft’ together but fight elections separately. This statement suggests that political equations in the state might change soon.
Confusion Over MNS and Alliance Unity
Congress responded directly to the debate on whether to include the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS). They gave a slogan to fight the Mumbai municipal elections alone. This move has created a major complication for the alliance. There was talk that the MVA could capture the Mumbai corporation with help from the MNS. However, the stance taken by Congress has altered these calculations. Sources say Pawar has now sternly warned the alliance leaders. He asked, “Why fight separately if we march against vote theft together?” All eyes are now watching to see if the parties will accept this advice.
Varsha Gaikwad’s Firm Stand
Mumbai Congress President and MP Varsha Gaikwad recently launched a strong attack on the MNS. She stated, “We won’t go with parties that beat people. We will go with those who take everyone along.” State President Harshvardhan Sapkal also supported this statement. This makes the dream of an MVA alliance with the MNS look very dim. Congress in-charge Ramesh Chennithala also gave the ‘go it alone’ slogan after a recent brainstorming session.
The Thackeray Equation
Sharad Pawar holds a positive view on a potential alliance between Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena and Raj Thackeray’s MNS. No final decision has been made regarding the alliance or the unity of the Thackeray brothers in the civic polls. A delegation led by Varsha Gaikwad recently met with Sharad Pawar. On the other hand, MNS leader Sandeep Deshpande clarified their position. He said, “Sharad Pawar is in Maha Vikas Aghadi, but MNS is not a part of Maha Vikas Aghadi.” MNS leader Raju Patil also gave a sharp reply to the statements made by Congress.
