Aadhaar: The Essential Document

The Aadhaar card is now essential for almost all critical tasks nationwide. It is necessary for everything from school or college admissions to accessing government benefits. This document has become the most vital proof of identity and address.

UIDAI Announces Revised Update Charges

Sometimes, updating details like name, address, mobile number, or biometric information on your Aadhaar is necessary. Therefore, UIDAI is changing the update rules starting November 1, 2025. People updating their Aadhaar will now pay charges based on a new rate structure. Let us explain the cost for each specific update.

Higher Fees Apply from November 1

According to UIDAI’s new rules, updating your name, address, or mobile number on your Aadhaar card will cost ₹75 from November 1. If you need to update fingerprints, iris scans, or photographs, the charge will be ₹125. However, biometric updates for children aged 5-7 years and 15-17 years will remain completely free. The online document update facility is currently free until June 14, 2026. After this date, a ₹75 fee will apply for this service at the centre. Re-printing an Aadhaar card costs ₹40. Home enrolment service costs ₹700 for the first person. Each extra person at the same address will be charged ₹350. So, if you require any modifications, it is better to complete them online promptly.

Mandatory Aadhaar-PAN Linking

UIDAI has issued a notice. Every PAN card holder must link their PAN with Aadhaar by December 31, 2025. Failure to complete this task by the deadline will result in your PAN becoming inactive from January 1, 2026. Consequently, you will be unable to file Income Tax Returns. You also cannot use the PAN card for any financial transactions. The government took this step to curb fraud and tax evasion. Therefore, individuals who have not yet completed the Aadhaar-PAN link should finish the process soon. You can easily do this on the official websites: http://www.incometax.gov.in or uidai.gov.in.
