The BRICS TimesVivo has officially confirmed that the Android 16-powered Origin OS 6 will replace Funtouch OS on its India lineup.
Vivo is all set to introduce its latest Android 16-based custom skin, Origin OS 6, in mid-October. The official confirmation came on Friday, just days after iQOO India CEO Nipun Marya hinted that the new user interface would soon replace Funtouch OS 15 in India. While Origin OS has been in use on Vivo and iQOO devices in China since 2020, international markets including India have continued to ship phones with the older Funtouch OS. The upcoming Android 16-based update is expected to deliver a refreshed design and smoother performance.

Origin OS 6 Launching in October
According to Vivo’s press announcement, the Android 16-based Origin OS 6 will be launched in India on October 15. Adding to the excitement, Shankar Singh, iQOO India’s Deputy General Manager of Product Management, revealed in a community update that a beta version of Origin OS 6 will also be rolled out soon for developers. This beta testing phase is aimed at gathering valuable feedback and ironing out bugs before the public release.
Smoother and Smarter User Experience
Vivo’s sub-brand executive shared that the new interface promises to be “smoother, smarter, and more personal.” This statement indicates a major overhaul in design and features, along with improvements to the fluidity of the interface. Users can expect a modernized experience with enhanced functionality and personalization options compared to the existing Funtouch OS.
Vivo X300 Series to Debut Origin OS 6
Vivo has further confirmed that its upcoming flagship smartphones, the Vivo X300 Pro and Vivo X300, will be the first models to run Origin OS 6 based on Android 16 straight out of the box. The brand also announced that the new design elements and features of Origin OS 6 will first be showcased in China on October 10, a few days ahead of its India launch.
End of Funtouch OS Branding in India
With the rollout of Origin OS 6, Vivo is also retiring the Funtouch OS branding in India. This transition marks a major shift in how the company names its Android skins across different regions. Until now, Indian and global users outside China have been limited to Funtouch OS, but going forward, Origin OS will unify Vivo’s smartphone software experience globally. This move highlights the brand’s push for consistency and global uniformity across markets.
