Addressing the UN General Assembly in New York, US President Donald Trump criticized Europe, claiming several countries continue buying Russian oil and gas.

US President Donald Trump addressed the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, marking his first speech at the UN during his second term. Previously, he had last addressed the UN in 2020 as President.
During his speech, Trump launched a direct and sharp critique against European nations. He accused Europe of prolonging the Russia-Ukraine conflict because several countries still purchase oil and gas from Russia. Trump stated, “It is shameful for them, and I was very surprised to learn that Europe still depends on Russian energy.”
Trump warned Europe firmly that unless it immediately stops buying energy from Russia, all diplomatic pressure would be ineffective. He said, “Until Europe stops taking oil and gas from Russia, we are merely wasting time.”
He also hinted that the United States is prepared to impose heavy tariffs on Russia if the situation does not change. However, he added that Europe must coordinate closely with the US. Trump acknowledged that while European nations have reduced oil imports from Russia, they continue to purchase natural gas. Specifically, Hungary and Slovakia still import significant amounts of Russian oil.
Trump also targeted India and China, highlighting that both countries continue buying large quantities of Russian oil, indirectly funding the war in Ukraine. According to Trump, “China and India have become the biggest funders of this war.”
Reflecting on his relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump suggested that had he been President earlier, resolving the Ukraine conflict might have been easier. He stated, “My relationship with Putin has always been strong.”
